As a Charlotte maternity photographer, I’ve shot all over the Queen City. Whether your style is lush and green, moody and industrial, or classic city skyline, Charlotte has a spot that will fit your vibe.
Here are five of the absolute best locations in Charlotte for maternity photos, along with the insider details you need to know before you book your session.
1) Freedom park (dilworth)
Best for: Classic, lush park vibes and variety.
There is a reason Freedom Park is a Charlotte staple. Located right in the heart of Dilworth, it offers a massive variety of backdrops within a relatively short walking distance. You get the iconic stone bridges, beautiful weeping willows draped over the 7-acre lake, and wide-open grassy fields that catch the golden hour light perfectly.
The Vibe: Timeless, natural, and vibrant.
Mama-To-Be Comfort: Excellent. The paved walking paths are flat and easy to navigate. There are also clean, accessible public restrooms on-site if you plan on doing a quick wardrobe change mid-session.
Pro-Tip: Freedom Park gets incredibly busy on pleasant weekends. To keep random strangers out of the background of your intimate maternity portraits, I always recommend scheduling weekday evening sessions here.

2) Midtown park (little sugar creek greenway)
Best for: Epic Uptown skyline views mixed with modern greenery.
If you want the Charlotte skyline to be a main character in your maternity photos but still want a touch of nature, Midtown Park is the sweet spot. Situated along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, this beautifully manicured pocket park features a striking modern metal pavilion, green grass, and an unobstructed, dramatic view of the Uptown buildings.
The Vibe: Modern, chic, and distinctly "Charlotte."
Mama-To-Be Comfort: High. There is a dedicated parking deck right next to the park (near the Target and Trader Joe's complex), meaning you only have to walk a few yards to get to the best shooting spots.
Pro-Tip: The way the sun sets behind the skyline here makes for jaw-dropping silhouette shots. Wearing a form-fitting maxi dress or a gown with a long train looks spectacular against the architectural lines of the city.

3) The 400 s tryon street rooftop deck (uptown)
Best for: Trendy, urban, and high-fashion style.
For the parents who want something completely unique, bold, and modern, stepping away from the grass entirely is the way to go. The top floor of the 400 S Tryon parking garage offers a panoramic, street-level-adjacent perspective of Charlotte’s most iconic skyscrapers.
The Vibe: Editorial, industrial, and effortlessly cool.
Mama-To-Be Comfort: Moderate. You can drive directly up to the top level and park right where we shoot, meaning zero walking. However, keep in mind that it is completely exposed to the elements, so it can get breezy, and there are no public restrooms on the roof.
Pro-Tip: This location screams luxury. It is the perfect excuse to wear a glamorous, elegant dress, a sleek monochromatic look, or even a chic leather jacket over a bump-hugging gown. Parking is $12-20 depending on when you go.

4) THe mcgill rose garden (rosie's cafe)
Best for: Whimsical, romantic, and secret-garden aesthetics.
Tucked away on the edge of NoDa, the McGill Rose Garden is a hidden oasis. This historic, intimate garden is filled with over a thousand rose bushes, lush pathways, string lights, and eclectic vintage details. It feels like stepping into a fairy tale right in the middle of an industrial corridor.
The Vibe: Bohemian, romantic, and deeply intimate.
Mama-To-Be Comfort: Great. The garden is relatively small, so you won’t be walking long distances. You can also grab a decaf latte or a refreshing drink at Rosie's Wine Bar on-site right before we start.
Pro-Tip: McGill is free to shoot in during public hours, but we have to strictly stay on the designated paths to protect the plants (no stepping into the flower beds!). It's also closed to the public during private weekend weddings, making a weekday morning or early evening ideal. You have to enter through Rosie's Cafe!

5) Mcdowell nature preserve
Best for: Earthy, rustic, and lakeside sunset vibes.
If your style is more adventurous, earthy, and raw, heading south to McDowell Nature Preserve is well worth the drive. Situated right on the banks of Lake Wylie, this massive preserve offers dense, quiet forest trails, wooden boardwalks over the marsh, and stunning waterfront views that feel miles away from city life.
The Vibe: Organic, serene, and deeply connected to nature.
Mama-To-Be Comfort: Moderate. This is the most rugged location on the list. You’ll want to wear comfortable slip-on shoes or flats to walk between the trees, and we can swap you into your photo shoes once we arrive at the water's edge.
Pro-Tip: The lakeside docks face west, making this the absolute best location in the Charlotte area for a true, glowing waterfront sunset. Neutrals, warm earth tones, and flowy fabrics look incredible hidden among the tall trees and water features.
