When you are preparing for a baby, the to-do list feels endless, and the expenses add up fast. Between the crib, the car seat, and the endless boxes of diapers, budgeting becomes a top priority.
If you’ve started looking into capturing those fleeting, first-few-weeks moments, you’ve probably noticed something frustrating: hardly anyone lists their prices online. You’re stuck clicking "DM for pricing" or filling out contact forms just to get a basic ballpark figure.
I believe in transparency. You’re navigating enough major life changes right now; you shouldn't have to solve a mystery just to figure out what a photographer costs.
Let's break down exactly what newborn photography costs in Charlotte, what the different price tiers mean, and what you are actually paying for when you invest in these memories.
The Average Ranges for Charlotte Newborn Photography
1. The Budget / Hobbyist Tier: $150 – $350
Photographers in this range are typically just starting out, building up their portfolios, or shooting as a part-time hobby.
- What to expect: They usually offer "all-inclusive" digital packages where you get a large number of unedited or lightly edited files.
- Things to consider: They may not have specialized training in safe newborn posing, a dedicated studio, or premium backup equipment.
2. The Mid-Range / Professional Tier: $400 – $800
This is where the majority of established, full-time local professionals sit.
- What to expect: You are hiring someone with years of experience who understands light, angles, and—most importantly—how to handle a fussy, two-week-old baby safely. This tier usually includes a curated gallery of beautifully, hand-edited images, and often gives you the choice between an intimate in-home lifestyle session or a dedicated studio session.
- The Experience: They plan for the chaos. They know how to soothe a crying baby, how to work around sibling meltdowns, and they don't rush the session.
3. The Luxury / Full-Service Tier: $1,000 – $2,500+
Luxury photographers provide a completely hands-off, high-end experience from start to finish.
- What to expect: This often includes access to a massive high-end client wardrobe, hair and makeup artists who come to your house before the shoot, and a heavy focus on tangible heirloom products like custom-designed linen albums and framed gallery wall prints.
what are you actually paying for? (the behind-the-scenes)
It’s easy to look at a 1 hour photo session and wonder, "Why does this cost several hundred dollars?" It’s a fair question! When you hire a professional newborn photographer, the session fee covers a lot of invisible work and expenses:
- The Time Investment: A 60-minute session easily equals 8 to 10 hours of actual work. This includes pre-session styling consultations, setting up/traveling, and the meticulous hours spent hand-editing skin tones and flakes in post-production.
- Gear and Software: Professional-grade full-frame cameras, backup bodies, lenses suited for low indoor light, editing software, and secure, double-backed-up cloud storage to ensure your baby's photos are never lost.

FAQ
When should i book my newborn photography session?
You should ideally reach out during your second trimester to secure a spot on my calendar. Because babies have their own arrival schedules, I only take a limited number of due dates each month to ensure every client gets maximum flexibility. Once your baby is born, we will finalize our exact session date.
What is the best age for newborn photos?
The sweet spot is usually between 5 and 14 days old. During these first two weeks, babies are sleepier, more easily comforted, and still have that curled-up, brand-new flexibility. However, if you miss this window, don’t stress! "Older" newborn sessions (up to 4–6 weeks) are beautiful and often feature more eye contact and sweet smiles.
what happens if the baby fusses or wants to nurse the whole time?
This is completely normal and expected! I never rush a newborn session. My schedule allows plenty of extra time for nursing breaks, diaper blowouts, and extra soothing. The baby runs the show, and we take as many pauses as they need to stay comfortable and content.
do you include sibling & parent photos in the session cost?
Yes, absolutely! This is my style og photography:lifestyle. Meaning I involve the whole fam! Bringing a new baby home is a milestone for the entire family. I highly encourage parents and older siblings to be part of the portraits. There is no extra fee to include immediate family members in your newborn session.
